COVER FOR 26M--with disclaimer
I am sewing a cover for a 26M and I thought I'd post some pics. Nothing is for sale. Buy your canvas from the forum's store. I especially cannot work and sew for a boat that is not here in my town. OK?
The material is Sunbrella Plus, the best cover material made by Sunbrella. It has a weight of 9.25 oz and has extra water proofing while retaining breathability. The panels are approx 80 inches wide and the color is Navy.

The owner ordered a cover to drive down the road with. I will finish the edges, then add a strap in a full circumference loop that is just below the rubrail that ratchets at the back of the boat. The aft end will be enclosed with a zipper opening. A boot will be attached to the rest of the mast sticking out the back. I am going to surprise the owner with custom rudder covers. He also ordedred a cover for the outboard.
All areas that rub on anything will be doubled. Most seams are hidden, and the correct UV polyester thread is used throughout. This is a fun project with my Juki dual needle industrial sewing machine.

Nice.
How are you handling the areas between the mast and the lifelines for drainage? The last cover I had would collect a lot of water before I built a couple of pvc ribs to go over the mast and hook onto the rails and lifelines. Can't see that kind of setup for over the road though. The cover I am reworking now is going to have cutouts for the stanchions and go under the lines. Maybe I'll have better luck that way. Tim

hi tim
there may be small areas where water can collect but I am not going to chase them. This boat lives under a storage lot roof, the cover is for dirt and UV and security. I am concentrating on the attachment of the cover at hiway speeds. The mast forms the high ridge along the length of the cover john s

The owner is planning a trip to a high mountain lake that has a 20 mile 20MPH road to it and he wanted protection. The rudders and engine covers have snap buckles on webbing to keep them in place. The cover is mainly held on by a ratcheting strap below the rubrail, but it was necessary to install 4 more straps to hold the sides down at 70 MPH. #10 zipper up the back. That's it for $1075.

Nice, job John, the price seems more than reasonable considering how much Sunbrella material that must of took.
Is it OK to divulge the lake destination? I assume the 20 miles of road must be gravel?
Going to Priest last summer we got into a number of miles of construction with gravel before Coolin and I wondered if the gel coat was going to get pitted from rocks thrown up by the rear tires of the Suburban, but it didn't seem to happen.
c ya,

It is probably too small for you to drive all the way up here. Deadwood Reservoir is North and East of Boise. One drives north to Cascade Reservoir, turn east to Warm Lake, go up the grade to Landmark, then turn south to Deadwood. It is only about 20 X 10 miles but very scenic. No cell phone coverage, no stores, no fuel available, occasionally weather like you experienced on Lake Powell. Beautiful

You are right about the cost of materials. Half the cost is Sunbrella, half is labor. I got to where I hated putting the cover on and off as I fitted it. Glad to see it go into storage.
Before the owner picked it up, I installed new trailer lights from Harbor Freight: submersible LED lights. This boat had been splashed once into salt water, I was amazed at the amount of damage and corrosion to the wiring, connectors and bulb sockets from that minor exposure to the ocean. All electrical connections were soldered, covered with heat shrink, all sliding plugs were coated with a corrosion preventing grease.
There is already rust forming on the trailer cradle under the bow, marginal surface corrosion on the aluminum trailer rails.

I found it. You mean 1 X 2 miles? Where does he put in? I didn't see a ramp, does he just back down on the beach like we did .................

...........................on our first trip to Powell? Cascade looks nice, do you sail there?
I have friends in Nampa and have visited them. Two brothers Ken and Nick Smith who have the Hot Rod Works and also race at Bonneville.
We really liked Idaho and will be back,

Re: COVER FOR 26M--with disclaimer
Yes a boat ramp like that one-Idaho has lots of bodies of water that require a shallow launch. That is the only reason I own a Mac 26D, that and the lightness after dumping ballast. My sailing club, the Southern Idaho Sailing Association has either two or three races at Cascade Reservoir every year. The biggest race event is on 4th of July, we have a lot of participation. Did you see Payette Lake further north? Beautiful place to sail, the main race is the Payette Cup. This year, I decided to crew on a boat to help the owner who had never raced, an O'Day 25. Ok even with a handicap we weren't so great because of the old blown out sails, but it was great to see how excited the owner got at the start. I imparted all of the racing tips I could, which is not that much, but I think I hooked him. By the way, on the 2nd day of the race a high altitude gust front blew through the middle of the course and really wreaked havoc. Lot's of unintentional round ups and near collisions, I am glad I was not the skipper.
Anyway, I visited Idaho about 20 years ago, and I decided to live here for now. Great place for kids too. That I also am able to sail and work in the sailboat business here is just icing on the cake.
